Welcome to my website - please read all of this page first...

Important.  As from May 2009 I will only carry out repairs for private homeowners.    Please do not contact me if you are the following...   Estate Agent, Letting Agent, Building Contractor, Construction Company, Housing Association, County or Borough Council, Insurance Company, or any trade whatsoever. If you are a private homeowner and you rent out a property, I will only carry out surveys and repairs if you are present at the property. I will not liase with tennants.

My Blog.
I've worked in the Double Glazing Industry since 1979. I worked mainly in manufacturing and then quickly became a fitter and then later a service engineer. I've worked for many of the firms that operated in the Southend/Basildon/Canvey and Rayleigh area of S.E. Essex. Oddly they've all ceased trading now..... I wonder if I was a jinx?
I can usually repair about 85% of the problems I am called to, however, there are some parts that are obsolete together with the systems they fitted so if a repair is possible it will be on a "suck it and see" basis. An example here is on Tilt & Slide Patio doors. Rip 'em out and fit something better!!!

Guarantee.
All my work is guaranteed if new parts have been fitted. Sealed Units are guaranteed for 2 years against misting up but are not covered against breakage, (unless I break one during installation) All other parts such as hinges, locks, patio rollers etc are guaranteed for 1 year.
This isn't to say these parts are inferior, it's just that people who claim to give a 10 year guarantee invariably become vapourised before the guarantee expires.   Adjustments to mechanisms or toe and heeling of doors are not guaranteed, nor are leaks or draughts, any quick fixes to get something working are also not guaranteed. These repairs may last 3 days or 5 years you take your chance.

Call Out Charges
I cover quite a large area of S.E. Essex, that is the area covered by the Southend and Basildon editions of Yellow Pages. These callouts are free. but I am getting an increasing amount of calls from other areas such as Kent, Surrey, London to place a few. Even Somerset!!! Please accept that I will have to charge for these trips even if it's just to take a look. So if you've got a broken handle in Shepherds Bush you'd be far wiser to contact someone in your local Yellow Pages. I'm quite happy to come over and take a look but a callout to Shepherds Bush is going to cost you £130.00. Call-out charges must now be pre-paid in advance. This is because of a clever dick who summoned me all the way to Brighton then refused to pay me when I told him his patio door was beyond economical repair.

Sealed Unit Orders (UPDATED 28-08-2007)
As from the 28th August 2007, I've reluctantly had to make changes to the way I carry out sealed unit replacements. Owing to certain people ordering glass then later deciding they don't want to continue with their order, I must now ask for a 50% deposit on all glass orders I take that are over £100. Any orders over £700 must be paid for in full before I place an order with the glass manufacturer. I will be honest here and say that my sealed units are not the cheapest you will find - but they are manufactured to a high standard and therefore I pay for that standard. I have not had to replace any sealed units owing to manufacturing defects for the past 3 years. Once I have given a firm quote for sealed unit replacements it is up to you to decide whether to use my services - therefore, before you place an order, I would ask you to shop around and decide for yourselves if my quote was within your price range.

FENSA Registration - Not for me... read why?
As my business deals solely with the repair of existing Double Glazing, I am not required to register with any quango like FENSA, the Glass and Glazing Federation. or British Standards Institute.  Which suits me, because I'm of the opinion that these bodies exist only for the purpose of extracting annual fees from businesses and doing very little in return.  Their use to the tradesman is to convince the enquiring public that his business is up to a certain standard of craftsmanship, but their use to the consumer is very much questionable. I could write a whole essay on this subject because I feel very strongly about it However, I feel the "proof of the pudding" with any business is not whether they have merit badges from whatever "Guild of Masters" - but whether the customer is satisfied with the job.

   New Installations
I am often asked if I fit new windows / doors / Conservatories.  I don't but I can highly recommend this company based in Thurrock, Essex.  Click the GIF and you'll be taken to their website.
